![]() "Untapped Potential" is the best way to describe what my life was like before coming to CFR. I was living without direction, without purpose and without the ability to really enjoy simple pleasures in life. Now, over 12 years later, I have purpose. I have direction and I can really appreciate all that life has to offer. With the help and guidance from CFR, I have been able to change that "untapped potential" into a Master’s degree in business and live a very enriched life. Most importantly though, my children only know their father as someone who is always there and is devoted to their own happiness and well-being. It really can work! |
Testimonials
From the time I was a child my mother always told me, “When someone does something for you, have sense enough to say “Thank You.” As my thank you, I give all the honor, glory and praise to God for everything he has done for me, and have blessed me with, and what he has brought me out of.
I came to Fort Dodge for treatment September 23, 1994 here at Community and Family Resources formally known as N.C.A.R.F. My life hasn’t been the same. My drug of choice was crack/cocaine. My addiction cost me 11years of my life in the penitentiary. I was blessed to be put in a position around people that cared about me, and loved me, until I was able to love myself again.
After being clean and sober for a year, I was allowed to come in give talks and started out giving back to others. I’ve been affiliated and a staff member for 13years now.
In September, 2001 I won the State of Iowa governor’s award for years of service helping people through treatment. August 21, of this year I’ll be free 23 years. September 18th of 08 I’ll be 53 years old. Best of all coming this September 21st I’ll be clean and sober for 14 years.
My position as a clinical technician is very rewarding. I’m a blessed man in so many ways. My co-workers, all of the staff here at C.F.R. have been very, very supportive of me. We ALL do our very best to help serve everyone, that comes here regardless of what type of problems they may be having.
May the good Lord continue to bless us all.

"Untapped Potential" is the best way to describe what my life was like before coming to CFR. By the time I ended up at Community and Family Recourses I had lost everything to methamphetamine. My business went broke, my home was being foreclosed on, and the cars were being repossessed. I lost custody of my children and my family was in shambles. I had tried countless times to stop using meth but I just couldn’t seem to shake it. I knew what was happening to me but I kept telling myself “this will be the last time I’m gonna stop tomorrow.” I come to a point where I couldn’t get out of bed if I didn’t have it. Thank God for my younger sister Shelly, she had had enough and had me committed to treatment. I spent 3 days in Detox and 28 day in impatient treatment from there I went to the Men’s Recovery House for 6 months. I needed to find a new way to live and CFR was very helpful in all aspects of my recovery. The staff was awesome, they cared about my recovery. I’m forever grateful for the support they showed me. It’s been a long road but it’s worth all the hard work. I just celebrated 4 years clean. My family has been restored and we are closer than ever. I’ve returned to college and plan to become a Substance Abuse Counselor with the same treatment center that saved my life. My life has been restored and is better than I ever imagined it could be. People can change and addiction can be overcome I am living proof. Thank you CFR. Jim C Community and Family Resources was the catalyst from God to help with the breaking of the blinders that surrounded me from the truth I needed for my life. I am forever thankful to CFR for pointing me in the right direction to find what I needed, "Jesus Christ". My name is Shelly H. and I am an addict. I came to treatment at Community & Family Resources in the year 1999 for a drug addiction that began at the age of 9. My drug of choice was methamphetamine. I was lost and confused with absolutely no understanding of my addiction other then my constant struggle to survive. I had many interferences in my life. I was about to lose my children, my home, I had many legal problems and I had not been able to successfully hold a job for many years. When I came to CFR I was 37 years old with a maturity level of a 9 year old. I had no understanding of why my life had become so uncontrollable but through group education and therapy I discovered my addiction was a symptom of sexual abuse that happened at the same time my addiction began. What a revelation! After I started to process my abuse with the counselors my life began to make sense. The counselors and the clients taught me that I was not alone and that I did not have to live my life in misery. I am unique and beautiful. At that point my history ceased to control my destiny. I am now a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and a Certified Gambling Treatment Counselor at Community and Family Resources and my life has transformed. What a privilege it is to be a part of helping others build a solid foundation the way that Community and Family Resources helped me. FREEDOM!!!!! |
